DiaGame: Gamification for the Education of Patients with Diabetes
In spring 2024, we spoke with project leaders Natal van Riel and Annelies Bobelyn from TU/e. Natal is a professor of Biomedical Systems Biology in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology, where he leads the Computational Biology group and the research program Systems Biology and Metabolic Diseases. Annelies is an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her expertise includes strategy, technology entrepreneurship, learning methods, and technology and knowledge transfer.
CIMPLO - Cross-Industry Predictive Maintenance Optimization Platform
Almost every enterprise has to deal with it: maintenance of machines and infrastructure. Traditional maintenance concepts rely on a 'fixed interval approach', taking into account a considerable safety margin. As a result, maintenance almost always occurs either too early or, in worse cases, too late. This arguably makes it one of the most inefficient and simultaneously critical activities in the industry. The CIMPLO platform aims to optimize the perfect moment (both cost and safety-wise) to perform maintenance on engines.
Real-Time Data for Products to Move Data-Driven Real-Time Decision Making in Supply Chains and Logistics
The project, here referred to as Data2Move, was started in 2017. The goal of Data2Move is to develop and demonstrate real-time data-driven logistic methods and techniques, initially focusing on inventory and transportation. Over the past years, significant progress has been made in implementing real-time data in business operations. While in 2017 many companies were still searching and did not know where to start and what to do with data, the project has made a significant contribution here. Innovative research combined with practical implementations - students from TU/e working at companies - were part of the research. A sustainable community within the European Supply Chain Forum (ESCF)* is the lasting result.
Virtual Interiors as Interfaces for Big Historical Data Research
The Semantic Web needs interfaces for critical, reliable analyses of Big Data for research in humanities, cultural heritage, and creative industries. Utilizing data on the production and consumption of cultural goods, geodata, maps, and building plans from the Golden Age, the project 'Virtual Interiors' unlocks the research potential of large historical data in a geospatial context. The project is funded by NWO Smart Culture – Big Data/Digital Humanities.
