NWO organises a call in the field of Energy System Integration and big data. In this new call, the emphasis is on the use of (big) data and the technical disciplines. The call is conducted by NWO Exact Sciences and STW in collaboration with Commit2Data and the Top Sector Energy.
The aim of this programme is to approach future energy systems as integrated systems, with big data as a crucial element. In such systems, for example, multiple energy carriers; multiple networks, subsystems and peripheral systems; or data from many different sources are combined.
For example, excess electricity from the solar panels of an office building can be stored in a battery, in the heat/cold system of the building, or converted into gas. Or a combination of microgrids, buildings and (industrial) sites or other subsystems can be managed and optimised as an integrated system, taking into account multiple actors and stakeholders.
This call focuses on the use of large and/or heterogeneous datasets. The projects in this call will therefore also be part of the activities of Commit2Data.
This programme focuses on public-private partnerships. The programme is implemented as part of the NWO's proposal for the Energy Top Sector. Project consortia must consist of at least one knowledge institution and at least one business partner. The programme is subject to a co-financing requirement. The aim is to obtain a mandatory cash contribution from companies amounting to 15% of the project costs. In addition, an in-kind contribution (probably of 15% of the project costs) will also be requested.
This programme is interesting for knowledge institutions and companies active in the field of renewable energy. The call is aimed at scientists from the technical disciplines, including mathematics, computer science and electrical engineering.
Size of projects and budget
The size of the projects to be applied for is likely to be between 2-4 staff positions. The NWO budget amounts to 3.85 million euro.
